Cheddar Bridge Caravan Park - Cheddar

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

Cheddar Bridge is a fairly small site catering for both camping and caravanning. It’s a flat site which is nice, and it’s bookable (ideal if you’re looking for a guaranteed spot). It’s within easy walking distance of the town, with access to nice walks, caves and lots of pubs and touristy shops. It makes for a nice few days away.

There are about 3 or 4 pitches by a river if you’re quick to get them, but if not then you’ll be in one large main field. It’s close to a football ground so there may be some noise from there (doesn’t worry us). There’s a small shop on site, and a supermarket close. The toilet block is not too bad, although can get a bit messy as the road outside isn’t tarmac.

Burrowhayes Farm - Porlock, Nr. Minehead

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Burrowhayes Farm is an idyllic campsite situated on National Trust land in the heart of Exmoor. The site is small/medium in size with a steam running close by, but as is so often the case the camping section is on a slope, with the flats reserved for caravans (caravan facilities appear excellent, with electric and satellite hookups available). There is a new toilet facility, built at the end of the 2004 season… the showers are lovely, and free hair dryers are provided. There are also good laundry facilities with massive tumble dryers. A well stocked shop is also open most of the day.

There is a very friendly and laid back atmosphere in the site… we pitched up one night and was asked to pay the next day when we were happy. There are loads of local walks through woods, and it’s an easy trip to walk to Porlock and enjoy the many pubs there. It’s also a good location to explore Dunster Castle, or various other local attractions including the West Somerset Steam Railway.

I felt instantly relaxed when at the site, and with it being so close to where I live it’s easy to go there for one or two nights to get away from things. It’s well priced (£9 mid season at time of posting), and I’ll be going there again!
